Achterbank #05 (2019) | oil on canvas | 90 x 120cm
” This holiday I watched all the episodes of the detective series Shetland in a row and it is striking that the car plays a crucial role. Yet we do not encounter a car as often in a painting as the place of action, but here life takes place in and around the car, just like in most detectives. A man and a woman sit jaded next to each other and the shadow of a third person falls over their car. On the back seat two teenagers are slouching looking bored, one of them has a container with plants on his lap, they are probably returning from a visit to a garden centre with their parents. There’s the typical elbow sticking out of the driver’s window. The endless looking out of the window while the surroundings rush by. “
